   If you contact any local travel agency here in the U.S., they can put you in contact with several Chines tour companies. They can probably make all the arrangements for the trip of your choice. All at little or no cost to you since the tour company in China will likely pay the travel agency a fee for giving them your business.

   I second the above response. I strongly recommend letting a local travel agent connect you with reputable (all things considered ;-{) ) tour companies in China. You may pay more for this route, but what you’ll gain in ability to trust what you’re getting are IMHO worth it.
   A lot of local outfits will love to try and attach themselves to you, but I don’t suggest you use them.
   If you simply must use a Chinese company, try China International Travel Service (CITS). They’re quite expensive, but at least they have some interest in seeing that turistas don’t get burned too badly.
   Similarly, most 4- and 5-star hotels here have travel offices that can arrange local, regional, or national tours for you. You’ll again pay a premium price for these services, but good care will be taken of you.
   Best bet: your local travel agent back home.
