Can We Use Lamps Purchased In Usa When We Move To France?
Posted by China Sourcing CommentatorMar 1
Moving to France. I’ve purchased transformers/converters for our lamps (all halogen). Can I use the existing halogen bulbs? What can I use for a rice cooker, electric tooth brush, power drill charger? Or will we just want to replace everything?! Please only answer if you really know about electical systems! TIA.

although you have said these items are from the states most people who are reading this will not know what voltage you are talking about ..im a builder in the uk and have been to states many times ..im sure your appliances are only 110 volts ..france uses 220volts have a home there and our stuff works well there although its 240 volts but we have to use a two pin adaptor ..in all honesty its best to buy new there ..they are quite cheap!
you can buy transformers but to run anything thats larger requires a larger transformer(expensive) for small things like the tooth brush a small one will work, but the rice cooker might draw enough power to need a bigger one. usually unless its something expensive its better to just get some over there. you can use the same bulbs. i used to be in the air force. in europe they use a 220v 50hz voltage vs 110v 60hz in the u.s., and the plugs are different, to use anything that isnt convertible to 200v you have to have a transformer to convert the 200v to 110v, the 50hz, 60hz thing doesnt matter so much, but anything made to run on 60hz will draw a little more power and get hotter at 50hz. as i said, anything that draws a lot of power will need a big transformer, but for smaller stuff its not so bad.since your lamps have converters its no different than plugged in here, its been changed to 110v p.s.some computers and things are convertible to 220v, you just need the different plug im not an electrician per se, but i do a lot of electrical work.
