When the unions realize that their “silly and ridiculous demands” are the main reason why this country prefer to buy from somewhere else instead of manufacturing here, not to mention that the unions are also the underlain main reason why so many jobs are outsourced.
Unions were needed many years ago when there were not so many laws to protect the workers, but nowadays the unions do more harm than good to our economy. Read More

Of Which Economy Is China Governed?
Author: China Sourcing CommentatorDec 3
There is virtually no more socialism in China, aside from government rhetoric. China is economically a capitalist country with politically a single party system. The Party’s legitimacy depends on Communism, so the government has to keep talking the Socialist talk, but everyone here (I live in Beijing) knows it is hypocracy.
And, in my opinion, China was always capitalist, though until the 80s the capital was not money but “guanxi” (personal favors). If a new building is built in NYC and I want to live in a nice apartment in it I offer money. In China I would go to the guy in my work unit in charge and give him a gift, nicest gift gets the apartment, *and* we both know that he did me a favor, and how much it was worth, so next time he needs something (get a car and driver, imported cigarettes, etc.) he would come to me. I stress, this is the way it worked into the early 90′s, it is not like this now.
But this is why corruption is so bad in China now. As the economy changes to money-based from guanxi-based, lots of “guanxi millionaires” are trying to convert their holdings into RMB. In many ways the economy is freer than in the US – no SEC hovering over the stock market (no effective one, at least), and very much of a wild west atmosphere, where the strong survive. Read More

Author: China Sourcing CommentatorDec 2
i’d say not yet. they’re going to go full out until after the olympics are finished, in order to show the world that they’re a first rate, highly developed modern nation. even if there are reasons for the economy to cool, i believe the state planners will keep it hot, regardless of the cost. when in doubt, just look at the construction still taking place throughout the country. Should We Blame The Republicans Or The Democrats For The China Earthquake?
Author: China Sourcing CommentatorDec 1
Perhaps the earthquake was a conspiracy created by John McCain or Obama using seismic radioactive machinery to trigger the China earthquake.
They wanted to weaken China’s economy to keep the US as a leading superpower. Is this theory plausible at all, is there any merit to it? Read More
