There was no “genocide”. However, there were people died from hunger.
It wasn’t all Mao’s fault. Since China had 100 years of chaos(since 1850s Opium War) before communists took over.
European imperialism started in China since 1850s the first Opium War. Second Opium War a few years later had Summer Palace looted and burned down by British and French. First Sino-Japan War in 1890s ended with Japan took Taiwan away from China. Qing Dynasty fell in 1912, warlords fought each other all over the country. Second Sino-Japan War 1932~1945 as a part of WWII. 30 million Chinese died in WWII. 1945~1949 Civil War between KMT and CCP.
China was simply already a big mess when Mao took over.
Mao merely made it slightly worse with his terrible economy plans. He did however, ended the chaos…no more warlords, no more foreign invasion.
You see, my grandmother had total 7 children. 3 out of the 5 she had before 1949 died… But none died after 1949 communists took over…because the communists set up hospitals, giving free medical treatment etc. Along with free education, arranged job opportunities, etc.
I have pictures of people in San Fransisco holding up this mad mans little red book I tried to market them in that city No one would display them Tell you anything
