You pose a really interesting question.
Technically, a government and an economy match. A capitalist economy works with a democratic or republican government.
And, a communist or socialist government works with a tightly controlled economy. But here, as you posed, China, while still communist, has at least a quasi-capitalist economy. Viet Nam went that route a few years ago as well. I wonder how far this will go? I also wonder if they felt this necessary for the Olympics.
I’ve been wondering if this will happen with Cuba since Castro stepped down. It would certainly help their economy.
Too bad we fought so long and lost so many lives in Viet Nam when we could have just sent in Starbucks and McDonald’s. Go figure.
But as for communism being best – no.

By definition, a communist government would own all the means of production. How could that work with a capitalist economy? Is that like a blond bald man?

No Way!!! In a communist society, you or I would not have the right to sit here yapping on the computer as we do!!! We are able to choose the freedom to worship the way we want. We can rant about our leaders, we can vote!!!! No matter what the problems in this country may be, we at least have the right to discuss them openly, and complain about the stuff we dont like!!!! We have forums in which to discuss our opinions, no matter how much they differ. We have the right to learn what we choose. We have the oppurtunity to attend the schools that we choose. There is no place like this country!!! We all may not understand our brother’s points of view, but I stand true to this country for allowing us all to have one.
well in all out capitalism… nothing gets regulated therefore unless you are one of the lucky people born into wealthy families then be prepared to compete against the monopolies of the tycoons in order to create wealth.
I actually am very supportive of China’s government because too much freedom is obviously a bad thing. USA have the freedom to buy guns where and when they want without showing ID.
Why do USA have more incarcerated prisoners than China when they have 1/5 the population?
