You pose a really interesting question.
Technically, a government and an economy match. A capitalist economy works with a democratic or republican government.
And, a communist or socialist government works with a tightly controlled economy. But here, as you posed, China, while still communist, has at least a quasi-capitalist economy. Viet Nam went that route a few years ago as well. I wonder how far this will go? I also wonder if they felt this necessary for the Olympics.
I’ve been wondering if this will happen with Cuba since Castro stepped down. It would certainly help their economy.
Too bad we fought so long and lost so many lives in Viet Nam when we could have just sent in Starbucks and McDonald’s. Go figure.
But as for communism being best – no.
