I want to pull my couch away from the wall, but I still need lamps near the couch. How do I do this without the lamp cord showing and snaking through my room?

set it like in the middle of the room or in front of your tv and then put your lamps on the sides this depends on the size of the couch tv and room
you could find some small area rugs to put the cords under. really though, you are bound to have some cords shows but at least that will help with the problem. good luck!
Pull the couch out from the wall and put a long, narrow table behind it with your lamps, pictures and possible a plant on the table. Your lamp cords should be under the table behind the couch. Hope this helps..

if you have a carpet, is there a way to hide the cord under it? another idea is to use a hanging light fixture. there are some battery operated lamps on the market, but if you need strong, bright light, i dont know if they’d work for you.
here’s something i did in my house–its a little drastic though. I drilled a hole in the floor and took the plug off the cord, then threaded the cord thru the hole, reattached the plug, and plugged my lamp into a basement outlet (this was for a large walk-in closet that had no outlets).

The floor outlets are the best answer as listed by a previous poster. However, if that is not a workable solution for you. There is a second choice for a less polished option. You could continue to use the same outlets, perhaps lengthen the cords as needed, and put them under heavy duty covers on the floor. I do not remember the correct name for these covers, but they are the indoor equivalent of a speed bump ( grin) they may blend (sort of) into the coloring of the floor while protecting people from tripping over the cords, and protecting the cords from the wear and tear of people walking directly on them which could result in fire hazards.
You may not be able to avoid wires unless you are truly committed to the placement of the couch. In that case you could have lights hanging from the ceiling.
Your best bet is too minimize the number of wires you have going to your floor or table lamps by using a wire management system of some kind. If you have all wires converging and covered in a flexible braided sleeving so that there is only one cord going to the outlet this will reduce the visual clutter. If the cord is in a high traffic area you may want to look into traffic-resistant cable protectors. Those are the flat plastic strips that cover wires and you can walk on.
If you want to be hard core you can drill through your floor and snake the wires through to a second hole by the outlet. (much easier to do if you have an unfinished basement below). This however is usually not a practical solution as it can be a pain to snake the wires if your joists are running crosswise and leaves permanent damage to your floors.
FLOOR PLUGS. That is the answer you arelooking for. They are available as a single receptacle in brass, or as a double(regular) receptacle in ivory. If you are handy you should be able to do this yourself, however if you have hardwood floors, dont chance it, call in a pro. They have the right tools that won’t devastate your hardwood. It will probably run you about $125-$150 for the brass, slightly less for the plastic(ivory)
