It wouldve helped if you had mentioned whether you are supporting the Chinese govt. or whether you’re against it.
I’ll give you a few points for both the proposition and the opposition.
Proposition (In favour of China)
- Lets closely analyse the Tibetan issue. It started off more than 4 decades back. The world community decided to highlight it in 2008. Why? First off, many political analysts believe that countries like the USA, who’re biased against China, want to portray it as an irresponsible state to the rest of the world. In other words, there is no issue as such. Instead a trivial matter has been exaggerated to the extent where it seems to be a humanitarian crisis. This is further supported by the fact that while riots and protests are being carried out almost all throughout the world, we dont see as many or even as siginificant in Tibet, which is supposedly the center of the issue. Infact many Tibetans’ lives have been uplifted by policies – largely based on positive discrimination – implemented by the Chinese govt.
- A couple of years back the world community decided it wantd to see reform in China. What does China do? China, instead of adopting its usual non conciliatory attitude, goes hand in hand with the world leaders and improves its human rights record. To curb pollution, it creates an environment ministry. In response to all these efforts, what does China get? More criticism. All this criticism isn’t really going to help which brings me to the third point.
- The main tool that the world is right now using to force China to do something about Tibet is the Olympics – which China is hosting this year. Many of the countries have threatened not to attend the olympics. This stance is only going to worsen conditions for the Tibetans. If the billions and trillions of dollars that China has spent on the Olympics is wasted, then it is going to blame Tibet for it. Just like a husband whose gambled all his money in a single night and goes back home and beats his wife, China will beat Tibet.
- Lastly, the world by imposing on China on this particular issue is adopting double standards. It blames China for forced occupation of Tibet. What has USA done in Iraq and Afghanistan. If the govts. of Iraq and Afghanistan support USA, then lets make it clear, the governing body of Tibet also supports China.
China (Against)
- The Chinese govt. has had a pretty bad human rights record ranging from their one child policy to the impeaching of the Tibetans sovereignty to the restriction on the freedom of speech. Actions must be taken to curb all these violations.
- The Tibetans live constantly in an insecure env. Although the Chinese govt. may have introduced policies like Affrirmative Action, these policies are only a facade. In reality the Tibetans’ rights are violated in an extremely ugly manner. For the tibetans, there is no free will. If they chose to be monks they are closely scutinized by the govt. They are not allowed to even whisper the name of their spiritual leader,’The Dalai Lama’. Anyone who has a picture of ‘The Dalai Lama’ is arrested. Is this really an improvement on part of the Chinese govt.
- Has everyone forgotten the Tianmen Square Massacre when the Chinese govt. decided to literally bull dose the rioters off the streets of china.
- Lets take a look at the journalists. There are no good ones out there. You know why? Because they’re behind bars right now. Even a hint against the Chinese govt. is a door for journalists to prison.
The fact is that people (parents and children) are never killed for having more then one child. Sometimes the parents are fined, but as far as I understand, not always. As for Tibet, the fact is that it is an autonomous state or province withing mainland China. Slavery was abolished in Tibet and the Dali Lama’s slaves were released as a result of mainland China’s invasion in 1959.
