I get the impression it is. I hear a lot of hype about it, but I feel once the garbage in this country is sorted out, China will not be that great. I think some powerful companies were using China for their cheap labor, but now that certain things will change, you will see how weak they really are.
The same goes for India.

yes. in one location you have an idustrial rather modern city like shanghai, and 100 miles away there are villager with no electricity or running water. it is that simple.
China in November announced its sweeping economic stimulus package valued at about 4 trillion dollars spending on its infrastructure, which will requires money from US reserves, putting more pressure on the value of USD.
China is no longer accepting labor based investments. All labor based foreign investments that already existed in China are forced to move to the poor inland and farming villages to improve the large poor population in the inland China. China is confident that IT, chemical, bio technology and electronic industries can now support the rich coastal cities, they are aiming at upgrading the level of economy.
In fact, they have much more advanced stem cell biotechnology. They claim to supply all human blood needed in China within five yrs through stem cell technology.
China has 1.3 billion people.
Only 300 Million people (About the US Population) is out of poverty.
The Chinese Communist Party is working hard to bring their working peasants out of their impoverished lifestyle.
You do the math. How large will their economy eventually be? Many folds larger than ours. Not only that, their Country is not in debt.
Do you know ANYTHING about economics? China has 1.3 billion people and their labor is cheap. That is how their economy is booming. And soon it’ll overtake the USA and become world’s superpower, both economically and militarily.

Considering that there economy is the same as ours: top one percent holding 90% of countries wealth, than no, they are not much better than us. We need to quit relying on their cheesy merchandise and we will save our economy.
