if the economics of outsourcing work, it is GOOD for America.
High wage export jobs like building airplanes at Boeing for sale to India simply wouldn’t exist if India wasn’t selling us something.
Obama either forgot to read Adam Smith or is intentionally ignoring the long proved and widely held economic concept of “comparative advantage”. Comparative advantage means that we do what we’re better at and let them do what they’re better at — and then we meet to trade products. Everyone comes out ahead when all parties focus on doing what they’re better at.
I can tell you first hand its not. I had a great job, great pay everything was stable. My husband and I decided we wanted a child. 2 months after getting pregnant, my job was outsourced to India.
I lost $250/month. It may not seem like alot but when you have doctor visits and you need to buy formula and diapers and food. And withtheh gas prices, I needed that $250. Now I have to work 2 jobs and I only see my son when we wake up in themorningg, and 2 hours before he goes to bed. I work from 7am to 8pm to make up that money I lost.
I am all forhelpingg other countries, but not if it means that we as americans are left out in the cold.
It’s definately good for corporations. They save huge sums of money, and make tremendous profit. The flipside of that is we barely have welfare, and the creation of new jobs is slowly coming to a standstill. Mix that with illegal immigration and the housing bubble and boom, we have a recession, with millions of people in this country being laid off, and crime going through the roof. Outsourcing is thus only good in an expanding economy where you have a labor shortage.
Outsourcing does cost jobs, and it has not been much of a benifit to american consumers in fact it has often been a hinderance. For example, many people who call tech support, especially those who really arent technical not only have to figure out what a support person is telling them on a technical level but on a simple communication level because so many people from india speak limited english.
Ten years ago I sold call center systems to operations all over the U.S. More than several hundred thousand agents seats total, and my company had a negligible piece of the market. One of my call centers in Jacksonville alone employed over 4000 people. That’s all in Mumbai now, with Indian agents using phony American sounding names, as though that covers up their “bibbity-bibbity-bibbity” cadence. I had one of these guys call me up calling himself “Scott” trying to sell me a “how to start your own business” package. I said, “Look Sanjay, or Munish, or whoever you are, I’m not giving out my credit card information to someone who calls me up from an overseas call center using a phony name, and if you knew anything about starting your own business you wouldn’t be sitting there making telemarketing calls from a computer generated script, now would you?” Click!
If I get a call center in India on the other line I just hang up, send a complaint letter to the company and do business with someone else. Next week my Ford Escape Hybrid is being delivered. yeah I could have bought the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and gotten a little better mileage, but the people that built that Ford truck live, work and pay taxes here.
He can’t ban companies from outsourcing to other countries, but he can get rid of the tax cuts for companies that do outsource.
When companies outsource to other countries, that many Americans lose their job.
Yes it’s good for american corporations. The reason they’re in business is to make as much money as they can. These are good tax paying citizens who deserve good tax breaks. Vote for me in November and I promise to give these companies a break.
well the thing is if you outsource, you dont have to pay the employees as much, so big corporations save tons of money and then americans dont have jobs. outosurcing is very dangerous, i think.
Yes.
Corporate greed hurts Americans at all levels.
Ask a company like Home Depot
It costs less and their customers get better service.
No. We need jobs here.
