Looking To Get A Credit Card To Buy Christmas Gifts?
Posted by China Sourcing CommentatorDec 11
I don’t have an active job right now so i was thinking about getting a credit card to buy gifts. I want to find one where it doesn’t have interest or payments for 6 months cus by that time i will have it paid off and trashed. I really don’t have any credit right now so i need to find a safe option. I’m going going to spend 150-200. Ideas?

If I were in your shoes, you may be able to secure a credit card without a security deposit. If you have a savings, and a security deposit is required, you can secure a line of credit and purchase your gifts this way. Because you have no credit, if will be nearly impossible to secure a card without payments for 6 months or 0% interest. But, the good news is you will be re-establishing your credit in the mean time so that later you can obtain better credit offers. Ideally, if you want your credit scores to go even higher, keep the balance around 30% of the credit limit. If you are thinking down the road of purchasing a house, having 3 – 5 trade lines would be ideal. If you are seeking employment, stay in the same field you were working in before and you can get a home loan (so long as you have either 2 years on the same job or in the same field). Hope this helps.
Your plan won’t work for the following reasons:
–It’s difficult, if not impossible, to get a regular credit card without a steady job, particularly these days with the credit crunch
–It takes several weeks to be issued a new credit card, in most cases, so you wouldn’t get it until sometime in January even if you started the process now and were approved
–You’re highly unlikely to find a credit card that will allow you to skip the first six months of payments
Are you under 18 years of age? Another reason why it’s unlikely you’d be able to get a credit card.
The only type of credit card you’d likely be able to get is a secured one, where you start by putting down a cash deposit, against which you can charge things. But if I understand your situation, you don’t have the couple of hundred bucks to do so.
Some local merchants have arrangements where you can purchase something with a low down payment and make monthly payments. That might work for you. The downside is that they usually charge very heavy rates of interest–they’re basically ripping you off.
Sorry that I don’t have anything encouraging to offer!
If you just want one for convenience and not credit, you can buy a prepaid VISA card. Sometimes people sell them at less than the face value:http://prepaid-travel-card.com/Gift-Card…
