That is a very simplistic way of looking at it. If we stopped importing from China, it would ruin the US economy. The US is becoming less and less important to China’s and the World’s economy. They send a lot to the EU and other countries and less so to the US as time goes by. We would lose the benefit of cheap goods as well as profits for US companies that sell them.
If that became a reality, the chinese could cease pegging the yuan to the U.S dollar, which would be the financial equivalent of a giant pearl harbor.
If we stop importing the low cost, ill made, products from China they MIGHT get pissed off & call in their debt owed by the US for the financing of this war & the trade deficit. If they would do that, we would open our eyes to what the actual cost of this war is & what taxes really are. Our credibility in the world would be completely gone. We would become a shunned nation. We would lose what little respect we have left. With all our “super power” bullsh*t, we would be nothing. However, their economy depends on the US buying their products as much as we depend on China to finance our aggression in the world. Could it be that China is just biding their time, waiting for us to dig our financial hole so deep that we can’t get out even if we wanted to? I don’t know! Do you?
yes, because the americans are out of jobs here.
No. China has invested heavily in the US Dollar, which is allowing us to continue our mad adventure in Iraq.
Turning our back on China would result in devastation to our economy.
What, and have America make its own plastic toys? Besides that everyone will have to replace chinese made shoes for American made boots…
Sure they should… but can you imagine what would happen if they closed down EVERY WAL-MART in the U.S.?
Of course not!!
No American (middle-class or lower) could afford anything then!
The economy would collapse!
that’s not the problem with our economy its greed and control within our system we need to stop blaming others and other things for our nations failures
I do not think think to keep America’s economy strong, but to keep China’s economy weak.
China is really not our friend, by purchasing all of their exports we are making their country very wealthy. If our trade was even I would agree with it, but the way things stand, they are the only winners.
No. Walmart would go out of business and the economy would take a huge hit.
And how would you feel if other countries arbitrarily stopped buying American exports?
Did you feel trade was wrong when America was on the winning end of it? Do you wonder why countries trade? Different countries are good at different things. We benefit far more from trade than we lose due to it. It is a two way street and one we rely on.
Yes we should stop importing, at least toys containing lead for now…………..for the safety of our children and ourselves. Import from China saves nothing if we incur health issues from the lead.
Definitely not the US, although not an ally of China is very dependent on China, and as a result China is dependent on the US. If we decide to stop importing from China they may feel gipped and may attempt to capture Taiwan as a way to bring in more capital causing ugly relations with the US anyways. The US economy also gets a large boost of capital from China due to our exports, so breaking off importing ties to China would damage instead of help the cause financially….
It can’t be done mainly because the US owes China so much money (a couple of trillion). Us is the biggest debtor in the world at the moment (owes more than any other country) and the biggest creditor of the US is China. In other words China keeps lending the US money so it keeps buying Chinese. If this relationship ended and China wanted its debts paid back or even stopped lending the US Money (US debt increases by about 1.8 billion dollars a day). The US would be broke. So in actual fact the US needs China and vice versa.
i don’t think we should stop importing from china but we should put pressure on them for sending their lead toys over here.but we can’t stop importing and won’t simply because china was kind of nough to finace the iraq war for us
a lot of the companies we are importing stuff from china for are american companies. so some of the largest profits are being made by american companies. so stopping importinf from china would probably have an adverse affect on our economy.
