Should The Catholic Church Become A Company And Float On The Stock Exchange?

Lots of Catholics would love to own share in the Catholic Church. It has strong income sources and can always make profits. Think of the plunder it has gained over the past 2,000 years and how this could be increased further by proper capitalism!

So, instead of the pope, the Church would answer to stockholders? How is that any better?

No. For one thing, money given to the Church in charity is meant for charity.
Second, pride goeth before the fall. The recent past has demonstrated that some of the seemingly most solid and profitable businesses only appeared lucrative due to so much unethical practices going on behind the scenes.

Every active practicing Catholic owns a share in the Church as he/she IS a part of the Church. Of course, I am not talking about earthly money. I speak of the “treasure” we “build up in heaven”.
<
So didn’t many seemingly strong companies that have gone belly up in the past five to ten years or so. Those people lost their jobs; investors their investments. No company “always” makes a profit.
<
This “plunder” as you call it, was made by the Church as the result of Catholics’ Virtue of Charity. What’s more, it was amassed without having to invest it in any company – thus proving investment totally unecessary.
Also, name me a company that’s the Church could invest in – preferably one that’s been around for 2,000 years, and it likely to be around indefinitely?
You can’t. Nothing earthly lasts forever. Thus, it isn’t worth the risk investing into.
The Church will be around forever, and it will remain so without having to invest money anywhere.
You have a serious distorted view. The CC is not in a business of making profits. They are disqualified to be a member of any stock market. The church is a charity and charity do not make profit. They take donations and make sure the donations goes to their charitable work. The CC is the largest charitable organization in the whole world. They own buildings, priceless arts in the Vatican and other properties; they are not allowed to build up cash… this is the nature of any charitable organization.
We already have a share in the Catholic Church. As for the wealth…the Catholic Church uses it for good.
The Catholic Church educates 2.6 million students everyday, at cost to the Church of 10 billion dollars, and a savings on the other hand to the American taxpayer of 18 billion dollars. Needless to say, that Catholic education at this time stands head and shoulders above every other form of education that we have in this country. And the cost is approximately 30% less.
Catholic schools graduate 89% of students. Those graduates in turn go on to graduate studies at the rate of 92%, and all at a cost to the Catholic Church. To the rest of the America it’s free.
It costs Catholics at least 30% less to educate students compared to the costs that the public education system pays out for education that cannot compare.
The Catholic Church thas 230 colleges and universities in the United States with an enrollment of 700,000 students.
The Catholic Church has a non profit hospital system of 637 hospitals which account for hospital treatment of 1 out of every 5 people not just Catholics in the, United States today.
The Catholic Church clothes and feeds and houses 1 of 5 indigents in the United States, and no one asks them if they are a Catholic, a Protestant or a Jew; just “come, be fed, here’s a sweater for you and a place to sleep at night” at a cost to the Church of 2.3 billion dollars a year.
The Catholic Church today has 64 million members in the United States and is the largest non-governmental agency in the country. It has 20,000 churches in this country alone. Every year they raise approximately $10 billion to help support these agencies.
Are you jealous or complaining?
In the end you take NOTHING with you, only your deeds, good and bad.
