Please site your source if you can. From US News and World report from one year ago the figure I thought was 250billion. Someone had recently said it is over 1trillion, which I don’t believe.

I believe whoever told you that is confusing Japan and China. The total US debt held by foreign countries is $1.886 trillion, of which Japan held $1.2 trillion as of March 2005 and China a mere $223.5 billion at the same time.
