Will I Be Charged A Customs Fee For Importing An Article Of Clothing From China To The Us?
Posted by China Sourcing CommentatorFeb 27
I’ve never imported anything, so I want to make sure that I will not be charged a ridiculous fee for importing a light jacket from China to the US through Ebay. I will be paying about $40 for it and it shouldn’t weigh any more than a pound. Thanks!

So long as the customs declaration from is completed accurately and the declared value is consistent with what’s contained in the package there will be no problem and, in your case, no tariff.
Tariffs are only charged for shipments valued over US$2,500.
An additional charge will decided upon by US customs, and at times, it can be completely random. You never know what they will stop. However, it’s not electronics, and it’s not valued at more then 50$, so it is highly unlikely that any additional customs fees will be added.
It also depends on how the seller marks the package on the shipping paper. If it states that the item is a gift, or ‘other’, instead of a sold item, it is more likely to go through. Most sellers I’ve come accross mark the item as a ‘gift’. But your single jacket, at less then 50$, is unlikely to be looked at by customs officials regardless of how it gets marked.
Don’t Worry! Enjoy your jacket!
